Travelling to London with your dog: a hotel guide

More London hotels welcome dogs than most people realise, but “pet-friendly” can mean anything from a genuinely warm welcome to a grudging exception with a hefty deposit attached. A bit of groundwork before you book saves a headache later.
What I'd ask before booking
- Is there a pet fee or refundable deposit?
- Are there size or breed restrictions?
- Which floors or room types allow dogs?
- Are dogs allowed in communal areas?
- What's the policy on leaving a dog in the room alone?
How in-room sitting actually works
If you're in meetings, sightseeing, or want dinner without your dog in tow, I can come to your room or suite and stay with them while you're out. I arrive, help them settle, and stay for however long you need.
Most hotels are used to this, but mention it to reception beforehand so I'm not held up getting to your room.
Why people actually book this
Many of London's biggest draws don't allow dogs: Wimbledon, Ascot, Chelsea Flower Show, awards season and fashion week among them.
I once looked after a puppy whose family had flown in from New York for Wimbledon. We spent the day walking around Mayfair and Hyde Park, with plenty of naps, and she was contentedly worn out when they returned from Centre Court.
Keeping a dog settled somewhere unfamiliar
- Bring their own bed, blanket, or something that smells like home
- Keep feeding and walking times close to normal
- Explore the room and corridor before leaving
- Skip the dramatic goodbye, a calm departure helps
Questions I get asked about hotel stays
Can a sitter really come to a hotel room? Yes, that's the whole point of in-hotel sitting.
Do I need to tell the hotel? A quick word with reception is worthwhile.
What if my dog gets anxious? Tell me beforehand; a calm face and consistent routine make a real difference.
Where I cover this
In-hotel sitting is available across the London neighbourhoods I cover, including Chelsea, Kensington, Knightsbridge, Islington, Westminster, Hampstead, Clapham, Balham, Battersea, Dulwich and Brixton.
